SEASONS GREETINGS from Kangalee Arts Ensemble at the American Theatre of Actors

Join us in 2026 for an unapologetic chamber drama where revolution meets heartbreak opens a power-packed season at the American Theatre of Actors. Kangalee Arts Ensemble announces World Premiere of ‘My Dying City Vol. II’ at American Theater of Actors.

A Poetic Meditation on Activism, Grief, and the Rise of Authoritarianism Opens January 15, 2026.

The Kangalee Arts Ensemble is proud to announce the world premiere of its latest original production, MY DYING CITY VOL. II (The Social Justice Suicide Hour). Written and directed by Dennis Leroy Kangalee, this provocative chamber drama will run for a limited ten-performance engagement from January 15 through January 25, 2026, at the historic American Theater of Actors (314 West 54th St, NYC).

Following the success of 2024’s The Life & Death of Art, this new production serves as a stark, character-driven exploration of the fractures within the radical Left. Set against the unsettling backdrop of rising populist authoritarianism in America, the play draws inspiration from iconic theatrical works such as Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Talk Radio, and Dutchman.

The narrative follows a couple of veteran Left-wing activists—former hosts of a radical radio talk show—as they navigate the devastating aftermath of their son’s suicide. Through their personal grief, the play examines the broader, fading hope for social revolution in an increasingly polarized era.

“My Dying City Vol. II is the culmination of a yearlong workshop exploring the modern theater of protest,” says writer/director Dennis Leroy Kangalee. “It’s a meditation on the anxieties of our time, blending avant-garde and ‘Method’ styles to challenge how we view activism and personal loss.”

The production features a powerhouse cast including Ward Nixon, Elyse Mirto, and Raphael Peacock, while introducing Brandon Geer and Shannon Mastel.

Developed through a fellowship at The Action Lab and supported by an Artist Advancement Grant from the Venturous Theater Fund, the play promises an evening of thought-provoking drama that merges agitprop sensibilities with deep psychological realism.
