REVIEW of Brogan Nelson: Fascinating Rhythm, An Evening of Jazz and Musical Theater Classics.
Brogan Nelson is an interesting talent. I wrote about her appearance in Upside Down.
Brogan has the type of personality, selflessness and desire that may gift her with a long and successful career. Currently, her voice has limited range that will restrict her ability to be a lead, but I just saw VOICE winner Cassadee Pope in Rolling Thunder who also has limited vocal range, but has been able through hard work and personality to successfully create significant roles off-Broadway and have success as a pop/rock/country star.
There is no reason Brogan cannot do the same. Brogan, as long as she sings within her strength (which will hopefully be expanded with training), has a perfectly lovely voice.

When she challenges herself too much the vocal shortcomings become apparent. Her stage presence has the potential to be magnetic, but that will only come with experience and caberet performances are the perfect way to develop that skill. Her fearlessness in allowing two friends/singers/actors to appear on stage with her when both seemed more skilled and experienced than her might be considered a major mistake in the commercial arena since it points out her shortcomings, but it also shows that she is willing to play the supporting roles that she is currently ready to play and star in.
