Review by Joshua Crone
Connor Wilson, Annie Margoles, Mandi Sagez and Thoeger Hansen should be commended for bringing Sartre’s “No Exit” to life-after-death on opening night! Under Alice Camarota’s skillful direction, the cast made full use of the intimate NuBox stage in Hell’s Kitchen to draw us into Hell’s drawing room, where the line is blurred between torturer and tortured.

Wilson and Margoles pulled no punches as they fought viciously over Garcin’s ego and Estelle’s body. Especially impressive was Sagez’s contemporary take on Estelle, a vain and vulnerable ingénue feigning innocence, equally at home in “Girls” and in a mid-century existentialist masterpiece. Nor did Thoeger Hansen disappoint with his brief but haunting turn as Hell’s grinning valet. No to be missed!
“No Exit” runs through June 9. Tickets are $20 at tinyurl.com/nightcook
