A great crowd and buzz accompanied the presentation of The Last of the Freudians, written by Joseph Krawczyk and directed by Eddie Lew.
I don’t use this word often – if ever – but this was a perfect play. Johnny Blaze was absolute perfection as Freud. He had the right level of energy, comic timing was spot on, excellent instinct for the humor, and everything he did was …. to perfection. (there’s that word again)
I found the play had everything that is required from a perfect play – the text, the through line, the level of drama, the interest, the twists, the arcs, the character development – just downright perfect.
I thoroughly enjoyed the abstract and the real. The guessing, and then the interpretation of the dream towards the end was an excellent and satisfying surprise. It gave the audience answers, and of course moved the character of Jeff to where he needed to go. Absolutely superb. Don’t change a thing in the script. The double twist at the end was also a quirky surprise that was also satisfying and provided closure for us.
My thoughts are it might even translate very well into a film….
